Series Three Introduction - The Fruit of the Gospel

Series Three – The Fruit of the Gospel

George MacDonald believed the Gospel was never meant to end with seeing the Father or even with learning the Way. The Father's desire has always been that His children share in His Life. As we behold His goodness in the face of the Son and walk with Him in obedience, the Holy Spirit quietly transforms us into what we see.

This third series explores the fruit of that transformation.

From the beginning, the Father's purpose has been that everything in heaven and earth should find its life in Christ. The Gospel is the unfolding of that eternal purpose, the King and His Kingdom. We were not created merely to know about God, but to know Him. The Life shared by the Father, Son, and Spirit is a life of relationship and communion, and Their invitation has always been for us to participate in that fellowship. As we respond to Their love, we gradually become what we have always been in Christ.

The fruit of the Gospel is not measured by knowledge, religious activity, or correct opinions. It is seen in lives transformed by the presence of Jesus. Truth is no longer an idea to defend but a Person to follow. The truth of a flower, sky, and water is to see God's glory in them and have communion with them and let them speak to us of Their unseen Life and Love! Freedom is no longer the absence of restraint but the liberty to love. Justice is no longer the balancing of accounts but the restoration of relationships. Justice is achieved when the offender and the offended are one. It is simple fair play. Therefore, Justice and Righteousness in the Kingdom amount to being good like our Father!

This transformation is wonderfully simple, yet we often miss it. We invent systems where the Father simply invites us to heaven, while the Spirit patiently forms Christ within us. We argue over doctrines while neglecting communion. We search for formulas while the Spirit patiently forms Christ within us. As Paul reminds us, we behold the glory of the Lord as in a mirror, and by the Spirit we are changed into that same image. We become what we see.

Because of this, God's Kingdom is unlike any kingdom of this world. It advances neither through power nor control but through goodness, justice, mercy, forgiveness, and self-giving love. It grows beautifully, one heart at a time, as ordinary men and women learn to live as sons and daughters of their Father. No government, institution, or religious system can produce this Life. It is the fruit of communion with the Father through the Son in the fellowship of the Holy Spirit.

This is our inheritance.

Heaven is not the fulfillment of our dreams about earthly things but the fulfillment of the Father's dream of sharing His Life with all His children. Joy is found not in what we possess but in what we are able to give away. Freedom is found not in independence but in interdependence. Home is found where love is shared without fear, and where nothing remains hidden because nothing remains outside the Father's embrace.

As you read these final sermons, resist the temptation to look merely for answers. Instead, look for the fruit. Watch how every sermon, every image, and every question leads back to the same Life. MacDonald was never trying to win arguments or establish a theological school. He was inviting us to become participants in the very Life of God.

By the end of this final series, my hope is not simply that you see the beauty of the Gospel...

...but that, with Him, you begin to recognize His Life becoming your own.
